March is Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM) and Art in Our Schools Month (AOSM)!  The theme is “Music makes Me…”  What does music make you feel, do, think, want or remember? Is music special to you?  Here are some ideas of things to bring MIOSM celebration into your home:

            –  Share a musical experience with your child (concert on tv, live concert/recital)

            –  Create your own music at home using items around the house as instruments (pots and pans, tables, cups…)

            – Have each person in the family pick their favorite song, share with each other and tell why it is your favorite.

            – As a family learn a new instrument together

            – Talk about how music makes you feel

            – Explore new music from around the world, you never know when you will find a new favorite genre!

Here at school, we are celebrating with several special events (please see dates and events listed below.)  In class we will be exploring many different instruments and the families they belong to.  We will also be experiencing the music and culture of Ireland and Scotland!

March 4        Instrument Families (Margee Milliser)  9:15 am in the Sancturary

March 11      Grandparents and Special Friends Day 8:45-10:45am (There will be a music class experience in the Big Room!)

                       Chapel 9:15am

March 12     Music of Ireland and Scotland (Margee Milliser) 12:30 (You are encouraged to come early and sit with your child)

March 16    The Flute (Katie West) 12:30 (Come pick up a half hour early and enjoy this special guest)

Please be on the lookout for more events!  If you are a musician, dancer, or artist and would like to join our celebration, please let me know.  I am looking for more presenters of the arts to help fill our month!

Chapel News

This month we are talking about the prodigal son.  Have you ever been gone a long time, and when you returned been greeted with more enthusiasm then you expected?  Please talk to your child about how you feel when they are gone and when they return to you.  God shows us how He feels through the Bible.  I know I fall short on sharing how happy I am when a loved one returns or sad when they leave.  He wants us to share our love and be unconditional with it.  Share this love and joy at your child’s return from (school, friend’s house, and playroom) with the excitement of the father in our story.  How does it make you both feel to celebrate love in this way?

We are very excited to share Chapel with our special visitors and look forward to creating art that will help us remember that we are always welcome to come home.

Preschool Sunday

March 15th at 9:00am we will be having a special service for our preschool families. The children will be singing “Jesus Loves Me” and signing A reception will follow in the Atrium.
